Girls and Boys HSE Cross Country teams competed in the Hamilton County meet at White River Elementary School in the pouring rain on of August 31, 2024.
Runners persevered through wet grounds, team injuries and personal afflictions.
Girls Fishers and HSE teams went head to head at this meet alongside Noblesville, Carmel, Westfield, Guerin Catholic and University. HSE came in third with a score of 71 beating Fishers with a score of 85. For Boys Varsity, Junior Liam Powers came in 3rd with a time of 15:42.7, followed by Ben Tuckis, Zach Swedarsky, Nick Vega, Aidan Lawson and Tate Watson.
“It’s always a great feeling winning…Mudsock,” Powers said. “It was even sweeter knowing we had some new guys stepping up to help win the trophy back as we had a couple of teammates injured who usually score.”
The Varsity Girls team was focused on one important goal: winning. HSE placed 3rd with a score of 73, beating Fishers with a score of 110. Senior Elizabeth Butler led the team, placing 2nd overall with a time of 18:42.2, followed by Casey Campbell, Ava Powers, Addison Smith, Regan Hissong and Anissa Lammie.
“The most important thing for us was to win because we have never lost,” Smith said. “The Seniors were able to keep that streak alive which was pretty cool and working together to get one of the first mudsock wins of the season.”
