As the gun goes off for the first heat of varsity 60-meter hurdles, freshman, Sam Irish uses his practice and determination to earn 6th place out of 19 other athletes at the HSE Blue & White Relays.
With Irish just being a freshman and being able to rewrite the indoor track and field history books is an incredible accomplish for not just Irish, but HSE Indoor Track & Field. With this being Sam’s first meet as a high schooler and already breaking records excites teammate Aidan Kimble for what will come in his next 4 years.
“If this is just the beginning of his remarkable career here at Hamilton Southeastern” said junior Aiden Kimble. “I can’t even imagine what PR’s and records the future will hold for him.”
With all this success and hope for the future ,anxieties are sure to rise. However, with anxiety comes adrenaline. While some people let their anxiety take over, Sam has prepared for this moment since he was 7. He knew that with his confidence and support from his teammates, he would be able to push himself to greatness. Which is exactly what he did.
“I definitely had some nerve going through my mind” said Irish about his headspace prior to the race. “But all that did was give me adrenaline and push me to be better and having my teammates by my side also helped me strive to be better.”
Once the race was over, Irish was able to reflect on his major accomplishment. He realized that all his hard work and determination was worthwhile. This proved to him all the extra work is worth it. Irish plans on finish out indoor season strong and go into outdoor season in a couple weeks even stronger.
