On April 23, the Hamilton Southeastern Unified Track team will begin its season at Hamilton Heights for their first meet.
Even though the season is a few weeks away, the Unified Track team has been putting in the work, so they are prepared. Practicing multiple times a week for a little over an hour, the squad has been able to focus on many different aspects of the sport all while keeping it short and effective. Although, the practices are directed towards certain skills, tons of joy is being passed throughout the whole team.
“We meet three days a week and each day has a different focus,” Coach Moosbrugger said, “There is always a little dancing and laughing as well”.
The joy that comes with preparation leads to those same feelings come regular season. For the coaches, having fun is always the number one goal for Unified Track. Also, their are a few other goals that the team hopes to complete throughout the upcoming season. Goals, that will capture what the sport is truly about and ones that the team can take with them for the rest of their lives.
“I hope that every athlete and partner gets better than they were when they started,” Coach Moosbrugger explained, “We hope to build the spirit of inclusion and each member of our team knows their worth.”
Across the program of Unified Track, their favorite saying is “#1 in our hearts”, it truly reflects the idea both Coach Moosbrugger and Gerard hope to spreadĀ that everyone has worth and everyone has someone looking out for them. This is apart of the strong culture the team holds and will compete with this year. As the upcoming season nears, the Unified Track is looking forward to a special year, improving on the previous one.
“Every year I look forward seeing the pride and accomplishment on the faces of our athletes and partners,” Coach Moosbrugger notes, “and I love that so many kids get to wear that Royals jersey”.
Getting to put on the HSE jersey is a great opportunity. An opportunity that brings immense joy to the team. Winning with that jersey on is the “icing on the cake” and will happen with proper preparation and a lot of excitement.
As the countdown to the first meet continues, the Unified Track team is putting their best foot forward, preparing physically for the meets that lie ahead, while having a good time doing so.
