On March 29th 2025, the HSE Boys Track and Field team competed in the Hoosier State Relay Finals. The Royals place 5th overall in the large school division.
The competitive atmosphere consisted of more than 60 schools from all across Indiana. The team’s performance was highlighted by the strong relay finishes, with three of four relays placing top nine.
The highlight of the day, however, was the 4×200 meter race. Liam Boyd, Christian Ortiz, Tyler Tholen, and Jaxson Wanza were able to work together seamlessly and placed 2nd in the state with a time of 1:28.71.
I’m happy we placed but still need to improve so we can win come outdoor season,” Ortiz said. “Blessed to be able to run out there. It was a great experience running with some good competition.”
In addition to the 4×200, the 4×400 placed 3rd and the 4×800 placed 6th. Their performance earned 18 points which made high contributions to the Royal’s overall 5th place finish.
“This was my third straight year competing at Indoor State, and it’s been rewarding to see my progress and build confidence along the way,” said junior Omar Elsayed. “… this year, I got my first medal and doubled in the 800. I also broke 2 minutes in the 800 which is a barrier I’ve wanted to break my whole life.”
With the Hoosier State Relay Finals closing out the short indoor track season, the HSE Boys Track and Field team now has set their sights on the upcoming outdoor season. As the Royals transition to outdoor competitor, they are using the Hoosier State Relay Finals as a foundation to build their skills and team chemistry. Having this solid base of performances, the Royals are excited to see what they can accomplish in the meets ahead.
“It makes me feel good going into the outdoor season knowing we are a a top team,” said Wanza. “It puts us in a good position to work for what we really want. That 1st place position.”
