As the ball travels down to the other side of the field, Ellie gathers her teammates to talk about what she saw. She gives them feedback and motivation to continue the game. Ellie has a huge impact on this team as she is a huge leader for others.
Ellie Philhower is a senior lacrosse player at HSE high school. Philhower is a goalie. As that position she can see a lot that happens, which makes her communication crucial.
“My role as goalie makes my communication a little different and extremely important, especially as a senior,” said Philhower. “Before every draw I meet with the defense and sometimes midfielders to talk about what we saw in the last possession.”
Philhower communications to her teammates all through the game to give back as much feedback as possible. She has a huge impact on the field. But she also has a impact on others off the field.
“Off the field, saying thank you to teachers after class and being involved in what it means to be a Royal is important because it makes the underclassmen want to get involved as well,” said Philhower. “Making us stronger in game and off the field.”
As Philhower strives to wanting to make her team stronger. And she does this through being a leader. As being a senior on the team, she has learned how to be that role model for others. She shares her advice for upcoming seniors about how to be that leader for others.
“Meeting people with positivity, especially as a role model on the team, is so important to keeping a positive mentality in games and practices,” said Philhower. “Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s how we react to those mistakes that define us as a person and player on and off the field.”
She wants the upcoming seniors to know this as its key information to keeping your team happy and feeling confident. Being a senior on the team comes with great leadership but it is also filled with amazing memories.
“My favorite memory was the trip to Ohio last year,” said Philhower. “The girls I roomed with are some of my closest friends and we had so much fun there and at Kings Island the next day.”
Through being a senior Philhower has learned the importance of communication and of being a leader. But she has also made some amazing memories with this team.
