As the Hamilton Southeastern Boys Lacrosse team progresses through the season, their set goal of winning another back to back state title becomes closer within reach. This success is not only dependent on their skills on the field, but also the bond within their team. Two key figures of the team demonstrate how powerful chemistry can be.
“Coach O’Rourke always supported me in everything,” said Jack F. “I strive to be half the man he is.”
As the assistant head coach for varsity, Coach O leads by example in being someone the team can look up to. Projecting the fundamental idea of “We Not Me” (the official team slogan), he encourages the team to not only be good teammates but also good people. This philosophy has especially shined in a specific on the team, as when many players were asked, “Who on the team has had the greatest impact on you?” one name was recurring.
“Dillon O’Rourke,” said Max Kemp. “Every team I’ve played on, he’s been on.”
“Dillon O’Rourke is a great leader,” said Luke W. “He is always pushing me to be better.”
For many of the people on the team, Dillon is not only a teammate but a close friend. Truly, the entire team functions as more of a family than individuals only looking to advance in the sport of lacrosse. From spending many hours together, whether on the field during a game or off the field at a team dinner, they have been able to build a special bond that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
“I think it’s just how much of a brotherhood we are,” Max Kemp states. “Together since youth.”
With team chemistry as one of their biggest strengths, the HSE Boys Lacrosse team is ready to continue their season and make a run toward state.
