After a long tryout process this Friday the HSE girls’ tennis team had their first event of the season. They had their Blue and White Scrimmage; this is still part of the tryout process as this event is another deciding factor of what spot on, they can earn on the team. Which is a HSE only scrimmage where they split their JV and varsity into two teams, Blue and White.
All together there is 11 matches in total for this scrimmage; to win the scrimmage the blue or white team has to win majority of the 11 matches. This scrimmage is set up differently than a in season high school tennis match, by having four singles matches instead of three. All matches are played at the same time on the Hamilton Southeastern Home courts.
Blue team for singles had Julia Anderson, Meredith Walters, Delilah Yoo and Vivian Bruno. For Grey team their singles players were Summer Wolf, Evelyn Hiner, Cami Burris and Kendall Frasco. Evelyn won against Meredith; Delilah won against Cami. Therefore, grey team had two wins in singles so far.
Another reason this is different than a normal high school tennis match because it has seven doubles matches instead of two. For Doubles 1 Naina and Ella won for the grey team, for doubles 2 Molly and Lily won for the blue teams.
Having scrimmages like these are very helpful for the athletes involved as they give them a less stressful introduction into the season and help with understanding other teammates playing styles.
Over the weekend the tennis team was supposed to have another scrimmage which was the Parent Daughter scrimmage. This scrimmage is more fun and lighthearted than the other and is a fun thing that the tennis players look forward to unfortunately it was cancelled due to weather. Therefore, the first in season event the tennis team has is April 16th against Zionsville.
