Adjusting to the varsity level of sports can be a big challenge for some but for freshman Lilly Palmer, the support from the teammates and coaches has made a big difference. Moving from the travel level to the varsity level is a challenge, but her teammates and coaches have helped her build confidence and improve communication. “My coaches and teammates have helped me adjust by having more confidence and communicating more on the field as well as dealing with nerves,” Palmer says.
Even though they are only a few weeks into this season Palmer has set personal goals for herself. Not only does Palmer want to improve her athletic ability but she also wants to use her coaches and teammates to help improve her playing ability. Palmer says, “My personal goal for this season is to learn as much as I can from my coaches and teammates, and I would also like to improve my power slapping.”
While the game is what most people see, her teammates have created some of her best memories so far. “My favorite moment of the season so far is getting to know my new teammates and getting to play a few games together,” says Palmer. With the demands of balancing sports and academics, Palmer has her teammates to rely on. Palmer also uses her time wisely and focuses on making the most out of her free time.
When Palmer thinks about who has impacted her softball journey the most, she doesn’t have to think very far. Palmer says, “My biggest inspiration in softball is my brother because he played baseball his whole life and he’s always wanted what’s best for me and works with me on anything I feel I need.” With the support from her brother, she is inspired to be a hard worker just like him. The game is more than just a sport to Palmer, but with hard work and dedication she can and will make the transition to being a high-level varsity athlete.
