Senior goalie Luke Williams has been having nothing short of an outstanding season, remaining undefeated during regular season play and holding a goal against average of just 4.6. Luke was named athlete of the week following his performance against Cathedral last Wednesday playing all 48 minutes finishing with 24 saves on 31 shots. Luke led the team to second- half comeback after being down 5-6. He only allowed one goal the entire final two quarters locking HSE with a 11-7 win. “It feels Great…, and something I never thought would happen.” Luke said regarding winning athlete of the week. But Luke and the team have their eyes on something else and that something is a state championship, “Individual awards are great, but nothing compares to winning state” he added.
Luke’s recognition this week is well-deserved, but his impact on the HSE Lacrosse program has been clear since day one. Head Coach Scott Beasley was asked if he could describe Luke in word and why and he responded “Loyal, He sticks up for his teammates, sees the best in people, takes ownership of his own actions. He is a loyal teammate.”
After getting to know Luke personally, I can say he’s truly a team first guy and brings positive energy everywhere he goes. Manager Romy Sogocio says “I’ve always seen Luke as a positive person on and off the Field. He is always giving people rides and even thanks the managers for handing out waters “
Beyond his attitude, Luke is someone the whole team looks up to – especially junior goalie Jack Eynon “I definitely have been trying to learn from his game, he never hesitates to help or give his perspectives on a play.”
Overall, Luke has been a great piece to HSE Lacrosse’s puzzle the past 4 years both as a player and a leader.
