Blake Babb and Drew Babb, both juniors on the Hamilton Southeastern boys golf team, share more than just a last name — they’re twin brothers. At a glance, their differences in appearance might make that hard to believe, but on the golf course, their bond is undeniable. Since their early years, the Babb twins have been swinging side by side, pushing each other to be better every step of the way.
“Being a twin really has helped me get better because I always have someone to compete with, on and off the course,” said Drew Babb. The brothers constantly debate who’s the better golfer — and even who’s the better twin. While fraternal twins like the Babb brothers are more common than identical twins, they still make up only about 3% of births.
Spending so much time together on the course has naturally led to some unforgettable moments.
“Blake shanked a shot and was livid — and I just stood there recording it, laughing at him,” Drew recalled with a large smile on his face.
“When me and Drew bet $70 on a match, I beat him, and he was so mad,” added Blake, chuckling.
When asked who’s the better golfer, both brothers had the same response. “Me.” But the last match results favor the younger brother of 2 mins, Blake. Blake shot a 38, propelling himself to the second-best score for the royals at the Hawthorns Country Club against Fishers. Falling not far behind was Drew shooting just 3 strokes worse than his brother shooting a 41, coming in with the fourth best score for the Royals golf team.
Their shared love for the game — and for each other — has fueled plenty of competition, but even more memories.
“I started playing first, with our grandpa in fifth grade. Blake started shortly after,” said Drew. Since then, they’ve not only been teammates on the golf course, but also on the football field. More than anything, though, they’ve been built-in best friends.
“I love Blake — he’s who I spend most of my time with,” said Drew.
“Drew is a best friend to me, and I can rely on him no matter what,” added Blake.
Their bond is truly something special, with each other every step of the way. The brothers both said they are more than excited for what the rest of the season holds for them and the team.
