Girls Volleyball defeated the Westfield Shamrocks 3-0 at Hamilton Southeastern High School on September 18th.
The Royals, Class 4A No. 1, went head to head with the Shamrocks, Class 4A No. 12, last night. With a close first set, ending in 25-20, the tensions grew high. Excited energy radiated off the team to the crowd as the Royals won sets 2 and 3. The second set ended with Westfield losing by 8 points, 25-17. Concluding the third and final set, the Royals won with 7 points over the Shamrocks, 25-18.
“Mistakes are always going to happen, but I think we did a really good job limiting our errors and keeping up the intensity,” said Senior Bella Dafforn. “…we are really impressive.”
With the girls playing aggressively on the net, offense and defense were able have a sense of trust between each other, which was shown on the court last night.
“I definitely think we prepared during practice on Tuesday and did… specific things with our defensive strategies…” Mia Walpole explained. “…after Brownsburg, we knew we had something to prove going into other conference games.”
Going into the conference game against the Shamrocks, HSE was 14-1 while Westfield was 13-4. They were expecting an intense competition. As the Royals had broke their winning streak after losing to the Brownsburg Bulldogs 1-3 on August 29th, the team has been persevering and continuing their season with confidence.
Learning from their previous matches, the team has been connecting in practice to “click” together and play smoothly. Their work was shown last night, as the team was able to pull through three challenging sets. Throughout the competition, the two teams were constantly at a tie, being put head on into fierce rivalry each set.
Competitiveness was a constant factor as the Royals fought to stay steady on their new win streak.
“Last nights match was super high energy,” Junior Merritt Sliwa said. “…it helped set the tone for our games this weekend.’
