On May 2, 2025, the Hamilton Southeastern Boys Track and Field team faced off against their biggest rival, Fishers High School, in the annual Mudsock showdown. Although the Royals came up short in the overall team competition, the meet was anything but disappointing, especially in the individual performances.
HSE athletes earned seven personal records throughout the night, proving that their hard work and dedication have paid off. One of the standout performances came from Senior Evan Senefeld, who cleared 14 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault a personal best that secured him first place.
“I prepared for the meet by practicing my vault form two days before,” Senefeld said. “The day before, I rested completely and let my muscles recover.” He trained consistently, building both his strength and mental focus. This discipline gave him the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
Another impressive performance came from Junior Sam Long, who clocked a time of 14.98 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 39.65 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, taking first place in both events.
“I prepared for the meet by really narrowing down my pre-meet routine,” Long said. “Before, I mainly focused on what race pace looks like, visualization, and executing my racing strategy.”
Both athletes credited their success not only to their training but also to the consistent encouragement from their coaches.
“My coach has helped me the most this season by always being supportive,” said Senefeld. “She’s always hyping me up, cheering me on, and pushing me to do better.”
Even though the Royals didn’t take home the team win, the meet was a night to remember full of personal victories, visible hard work, and intense competition that adds more excitement as the outdoor season continues.
