When Quentin Willoughby steps onto the track, he brings more than just strength and determination, he brings joy and team spirit as well. Quentin was recently been named Athlete Of The Week and it is so easy to understand why.
Quentin (known as Q to his teammates) is an athlete for the Unified Track and Field team. Unified Track and Field is a highly supported sport mainly because of how amazing all the kids are. People love watching and participating in Unified because it is a more relaxed version of Track and Field while still being surrounded by an immense amount of laughter and love.
“Q is deserving to win athlete of the week because there is nothing he won’t try, even if others may think he can’t, he knows he can,” teammate Tyler Irwin said. “He has a special place in all our hearts here at HSE.”
Unlike most athletes, Q didn’t get nominated for Athlete of The Week because of some outstanding stat or PR time, but simply just because of the joy and positivity he brings to the team and his teammates. Known for his encouraging smile and positive personality, Q has quickly become a favorite amongst the coaches and team members.
“Q is genuinely one of the most uplifting people to be around,” assistant coach Lauryn Gerard said. “He brings such positive energy every day—always smiling and always ready with a fist bump. He’s the kind of teammate who instantly makes others feel seen and supported, and that connection really matters in a team environment.”
Being named Athlete Of The Week is more than just a title, its the recognition of dedication and love an athlete has for their team, and Q shows this every meet. Seeing Q personally at these meets, I have seen firsthand how much of a positive impact he has on his team and that he is more than deserving of this award.
“Quentin embodies what that recognition is all about,” Gerard said. “He gives his best effort, uplifts his teammates, and carries himself with a spirit that motivates everyone around him. He’s not just a great athlete—he’s a great human being. And the team is lucky to have him.”
