Girls Tennis falls to Carmel Greyhounds at Hamilton Southeastern High School on May 14, 2025.
The HSE Lady Royals tennis team faced off against the 13-time state champions, the Carmel Greyhounds, in a challenging match on May 14th. Unfortunately, the Royals were outmatched by the Greyhounds’ skill and experience, losing 0-5 in varsity play. With the defeat, the Royals’ season record dropped to 3-10, with a 2-5 record in HCC conference play.
Carmel, coming off a tough loss to top-ranked Brebeuf Jesuit, was determined to secure their 14th state title, putting them in a tie with North Central for the most titles in state history. The Greyhounds were led by up-and-coming talents such as sophomore Elaine Li and junior Eleanor Houck, both of whom won their sets decisively.
Despite the loss, the Royals had some standout performances. Sophomore Julia Anderson, playing in the number one varsity spot, held strong in the first set, winning 3 games before ultimately losing 3-6. Junior Summer Wolfe had a dominant first set, winning 6-1, but unfortunately fell in a heartbreaking third set as she sought the Royals’ only varsity win.
On the junior varsity side, freshmen Delilah Yoo and Meredith Walters faced tough competition, losing their respective matches. However, their efforts showcased the potential for future success as sectionals approach.
Senior Evelyn Hiner reflected on her experience, saying, “Last night I thought I was going to be done within the hour, but I was able to prove to myself I can keep up with anyone if I set my mind to it.” Her positive mindset highlighted the importance of staying focused and determined, which can push any individual or team to achieve more than they might expect.
Looking ahead, the future remains bright for the Lady Royals as they continue to grow and improve.
