The boys volleyball team fell to Fishers in their first round of sectionals on May 14 at Fishers.
Sean Carmona, setter, a senior on the Hamilton Southeaster boys volleyball team, has became a stand out player, who is not only a good teammate, but is also a great person to the people around him.
“Initially I was a libero and a defensive specialist but was interested in setting.” Carmona said.
After playing for three years and eventually transferring to be a setter, Carmona climbed the rankings and is now ranked 14 in the state for assists, with a total of 564.
Carmona says, “Personally I don’t really care about rankings, and focus more on if the team wins or loses, and why the win or loss happened.” This tells you about the type of person Carmona really is.
This reveals how Carmona is a team first player, and will put his team before himself. Although he is doing very well, there are certain things that can continue to be developed and improved.
Carmona says, “The part of my game that I am trying to improve is decision making whether it’s setting a hitter who’s on fire where they’ll have a double block, or setting the hitter who hasn’t had a great game who will probably have a one on one.”
Mentally preparing for a game is an important part of playing well. When asked, Carmona said, “To mentally prepare I try to focus on my breathing which helps me calm down so I can focus more on the game.”
Its not always the big things that are needed when preparing for games, but rather the little things that separate good players from great players which Carmona does daily.
