As the school year and spring sports come to an end, so does the journey of high school baseball. With only two home games left and sectionals around the corner, the seniors continue to work towards making a lasting impact on the HSE baseball program as they take the next steps toward their futures.
This year, there are three students committed to playing baseball at the collegiate level. Maddux Bach is committed to the University of Indianapolis, while Michael Hoog and Josh Lesniewski are both committed to DePauw.
Four-year varsity player Maddux Bach has become known for his exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication both on and off the field. His senior year was marked by two new school records, including the record for stolen bases in a season as well as in a career. In an interview before the season, Bach said:
“My experience with HSE baseball has been great since freshman year, just everything I could ask for with high school baseball.”
As HSE gears up for a long postseason run, the team has high hopes for a successful end to the season. Senior Nate McGrath said:
“Well, I hope to win sectionals… and regionals… then semi-state and then a state championship.”
Similarly, when asked what he wanted to accomplish this season, outfielder Ty Earlewine said:
“To win state is the ultimate goal for the year, and it’s something I’ve worked for all four years at HSE.”
As fans fill the stands for one last chance to cheer the seniors on, it’s clear that all 11 seniors have already left an indelible mark on Hamilton Southeastern High School and its baseball program.
