“Off the court, I’ve met some of my best friends.” “They’re all my best friends.” -Setter Sean Carmona
At the beginning of the 2025 season, the boys’ volleyball seniors were interviewed. They were asked a set of questions, and it started with a memorable moment that have from being a part of this program. Here are some responses from the group:
“My most [memorable] moment was the first days that I got into here, like into the gym, and just being around all the coaches and players.” – Sean Smart
One of my most memorable moments was the first time I got subbed in varsity my sophomore year and my first serve I got an ace against cathedral. Everyone made me feel great for such a simple thing like getting a serve in and they’ve always supported me and that always stuck with me.” –Jordan Sexauer
“My most memorable moment is probably when I get notified that I was going to make varsity because honestly that whole week I was in my head, and I didn’t know if I could make it.” -Cooper Mclntosh
“My most memorable moment is like seeing my success pay off, like all the hard work outside of the gym, weight lifting, and just practicing outside of practice. It was great to see that payoff in games and succussing and being on varsity and being a starter.” –Colby Jensen
Besides that one highlighted memory, other seniors expressed memories and traditions that weren’t as big, but will still be missed.
“I’m definitely going to miss the practices. I loved being able to come in and play with people and be able to try out new things on the court with them.” –Vini Knihs
“throughout my career, its [been] great seeing everyone under me and my underclassmen seeing how they develop and grow off and off the court.” -Sean Carmona
As they were wrapping up their last thoughts, they were asked one last question.
“What legacy do you wish to leave behind?”
“The legacy I hope to leave behind is to be hard working on the court and to make sure every little thing is right whether that’s listening to coach, running as hard as we can in between drills and overall hustling.” –Carmona
“As a senior, I think I lot of people know me as hard working and determined, so I think a legacy I will leave behind for underclassmen is to work hard and that hard work pays off.” –Jensen
“I hope to leave behind having a good work ethic, making sure everyone works hard in the gym, and try to lead everyone that’s younger than you.” –Mclntosh
“ I really hope that as a senior, I always advocate that the team and the program that we have is like a family and we should always be inclusive to one another, be respectful, and treat each other like were family.” –Sexayer
“I always advocate that the team and the program that we have is like a family and we should always be inclusive to one another, be respectful, and treat each other like we’re family.” –Sexauer
As the seniors say their goodbyes after their last match against Fishers May 14th, they also engrave footsteps for underclassmen to follow in. Every celebration shared, ball digged, hit blocked, tear cried, and moment shared paved the way for others while making these seniors who they are today. As they share these memories, joyful moments, and piece of advice, they also share a piece of themselves that wouldn’t be true if it wasn’t for HSE Boys Volleyball.
