HSE Boys Golf placed 4th in the HCC Championship at Bear Slide Golf Course on May 19, 2025.
At Hamilton Southeastern High School, the name Starnes carries weight in the golf world. Following his older brother, who left a legacy at HSE, Dane Starnes is determined to create his own path.
“My brother’s career has showed me that if you put in the work anything can happen” Dane said.
It’s not easy following someone else’s legacy, and that is why Dane has set specific goals for this season.
“I’ve set some different goals such as winning the state championship as a team and an individual but other than that I have similar goals as him such as playing division 1 golf and leaving a great legacy on HSE golf.”
With every swing, every shot, and every match, Dane is constantly trying to outplay his brother. Competition is very important the the Starnes brothers, which is why they are always willing to go the extra mile.
“Something that motivates me to keep improving is the feeling of winning,” he said. “Seeing my brother succeed and how much fun that was—I’ve been chasing that feeling my whole life.”
Dane’s mindset of winning has fueled his passion for winning. In the coming years, Dane is set on playing division one golf, and he will do anything to reach his goal.
As Dane’s continues to climb the ranks of high school golf, he’s made his goals clear. He has his sights set on success, and will do what it takes to achieve them.
