Ever since Kam Anthony got to Ball State, he has been grinding for his goals of getting the John Mackey Award. Every day he is getting another step closer to his opening game against Purdue where he hopes to start and prove to everybody else that he’s different and that he has what it takes to be the best. It didn’t start here though. It started back in his elementary school years working his way up through the system to make it to where he is now.
Anthony has had many steps and leaps that he chose to take to get to the position that he’s in now. Some of these big moments were later in his life and some of them were early but they are all equally as important to his success.
“One of my earliest memories is like, I was playing quarterback, and I handed off a touchdown,” Anthony said. “I just always loved the game. I always loved contact. You can go look in basketball. I’d foul the mess out of people sometimes…I was always an aggressive type of person, and I feel like football is the perfect sport.”
Ever since Anthony first got on the field, he just fell in love with the game. Although he has since swapped positions from that first memory, he still loves every part of the game. He has the athleticism to transfer his aggressive mentality into other sports, but his mentality fits best in football for him. Without this moment he has nowhere to build from for the rest of his career so starting young was a huge advantage.
“So for me, I knew I could play college football probably about like my sophomore year of high school,” Anthony said. But like, playing at this level, I didn’t probably realize that till, like my junior year because that’s when some bigger schools started to reach out.”
Anthony didn’t see college football as an opportunity until people started to see promise in him. When he started getting offers in his sophomore and junior years that’s when he started making bigger goals and preparing for his college career. He ended up getting a most improved player award for his high school team and an all-state honorable mention.
“My family has just been really supportive, one my goals in the next couple years is to win the John Mackey Award, which is the best tight end in college football.” Anthony announced.
Anthony has big goals for himself displaying how he believes in himself that he can complete these goals at the next level. He will be playing against better competition, and he knows that. He just knows he is just as good as them. No matter what he knows that he can do whatever he puts his mind to.
