The HSE Boys Tennis team faced off against their cross-town rivals, The Fisher Tigers in dominant win by the Royals on September 9th. The Royals outmatched the Tigers with talent and knowledge, winning 5-0 in varsity play. The Royals were 5-4 on the season with their losses coming the number one, two, four, and seventh teams in the state. With the win the Royals advance to 6-4 on the season.
With all of the hype coming into this match with Mudsock week, Fishers was looking to secure the win against a pretty good HSE team. But with the help of doubles Logan Foust and Landon Osswald, and single Parker Stump, the Royals were able to bring back the Mudsock Trophy to HSE.
A huge part of why the Royals won last night, came from the help of Foust and Ossswald, winning their match 6-3 6-2. “We served super well, not getting broken the whole match, which is huge when winning doubles matches,” Osswald said. “Getting to net as soon as possible was also huge too. In doubles you need to get to the net to win points and that’s what we did.” Having that game plan was key contributor on why the two succeed in their match.
The team work of Osswald was on point last night as well. “We are both high IQ doubles players and are excellent at executing strategies that almost no team can pull off,” Osswald said. “I’ll send Logan videos and message him a lot, so we are tight with each other.” The way that these two are able to communicate with each other, is truly wonderful.
Stump was also was also a huge contributor to win, winning his match 6-1 6-4. Stumps went back and forth. Balls to left and right, running up and down the court, side to side. Stump’s relentless effort was good enough to seek out the win in his match.
The Royals are looking ahead for their next match where they play Avon at Fishers High School and look to secure yet another victory.
