The Hamilton Southeastern Royals will step onto their home turf on Thursday, October 2 to face a tough Carmel Greyhounds team in a matchup that could make a statement. Carmel enters the contest nationally ranked and remains one of the premier programs in the state of Indiana.
The Royals hold an 8-2-5 record and sit third in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference at 2-1-4. Ranked No. 13 in Indiana by MaxPreps, HSE is led by senior captains Gavin Boyle, a steady presence on the back line, and striker Nick Kestian, who has been key in the attack. The Royals have battled through tight draws and earned big wins against conference opponents such as Avon and Westfield. For a team still searching for consistency heading into the postseason, Thursday’s showdown could provide a crucial momentum boost before a challenging sectional.
Carmel, meanwhile, has lived up to its reputation. The Greyhounds boast a 9-1-3 record and are ranked No. 6 in Indiana and No. 35 nationally, according to MaxPreps. On September 25, they flexed their firepower with a 6-0 rout of New Palestine. Senior forward Troy Enslin and junior midfielder Mikey Kubek lead an attack that has powered Carmel all season.
For the Royals, the keys will be containing Carmel’s midfield and capitalizing on any scoring chances. HSE’s offense will be led by Kestian and junior midfielder Cooper Perez, the team’s leader in assists. HSE will need to spearhead the offense, while the back line stays sharp and disciplined for a full 80 minutes.
“Last Game headed into sectionals” Kestian said, “huge moment to decide how our momentum will be, and it’s a top five school so not an easy game.”
Thursday night is more than just another match; it’s a chance for the Royals to prove they belong among the state’s best. With their captains leading the way and momentum on the line, HSE will look to defend home turf and send a message heading into sectionals. Royals fans, pack the stands because this one has all the makings of a classic.
