Girls Golf secured a 2nd place finish at IHSAA Regionals, shooting a team score of 304 at Edgewood Golf Course on September 27.
Junior Sophie Roberts led the way, shooting 4-under par to claim the individual regional championship. Her win not only highlighted her ability to compete with the best players in Indiana but also gave the Royals a critical boost on the leaderboard.
“It feels really great to finally get a win at a course I know and can play well there,” Roberts said. “And despite being a junior, I can play just as well as the older girls there.”
While Roberts’ victory was a highlight, the Royals’ overall performance was just as important. Every score mattered as the team locked in a second-place finish, securing their spot in the IHSAA State Finals.
“As a team I don’t think we competed to the level we wanted to,” Roberts admitted. “But I think we performed still very well for us, and it is definitely leaving us wanting to prove ourselves at state even more.”
The Royals showed resilience and depth throughout the round, with steady play across the lineup that kept them near the top of the standings. Though they fell just short of the regional title, their ability to post a strong team score under pressure reflects the growth and work they have put in all season.
Now, the focus turns to the IHSAA State Finals. Roberts will look to carry her momentum from regionals into the biggest stage of high school golf, while the Royals aim to elevate their performance and push for an even higher team finish. With confidence building and one of their best rounds of the year behind them, the team enters the final tournament ready to compete with the state’s best.
