As the Unified flag football season comes to an end, many players feel a mix of sadness and gratitude for the unforgettable memories they’ve made. After an exciting and successful season, the Royals fell to Warren Central in Sectionals. Although the season didn’t end the way the team had hoped, the players are reflecting on all the special moments they shared.
“The season was special,” Vince Putnam said. “It gave me the opportunity to grow and compete with athletes and peers.”
The opportunity for growth and building new friendships is something both the peers and athletes will cherish forever. These memories and experiences are what the sport is truly about in the grand scheme of things.
Coach Kourtney Lawhead said the Colts game was the highlight of the season, providing a unique atmosphere filled with energy and excitement, along with the pressure of playing in front of Indianapolis Colts players. “The Colts Complex game had crazy energy,” Lawhead said. “I felt like it was the turning point of our season and gave us momentum for the rest of the year.”
Senior Jack Trant, who earned Offensive MVP for the season, shared his enthusiasm for the Colts Complex game as well. “It was a very intense game,” Trant said. “There was a lot of pressure playing in front of them [Colts players and coaches], but meeting them after the game was the coolest part.”
Not only was the Colts Complex game a core memory, but so was the matchup against Zionsville. Coach Lawhead said it showed the true character of the 2025 Unified Flag Football team. “This was the first game where we were really able to get a lead on a team,” Lawhead said. “But even with the lead, we showed sportsmanship and, most importantly, had fun.”
These core memories were felt throughout the team all season long. As seniors graduate and players move on, the memories they created will last a lifetime, and the bonds they have made with follow them throughout high school and adulthood. “I will always cherish these memories,” Putnam said. “I’m so thankful I have another year with this team.”
