When Cooper Perez steps onto the soccer field for Hamilton Southeastern, he’s not just looking to score, he’s looking to create. Cooper is a junior at Hamilton Southeastern and has made a name for himself this season, earning first team all-district, and leading the team in assists with 10 throughout the season. “I am truly grateful for being recognized for my assists and making first team all-district, but more importantly, I am very grateful for my teammates because my assists wouldn’t be possible without their goals.” Junior Cooper Perez said. Accomplishing this all as a junior is something Cooper takes a lot of pride in, but there is a lot of pressure that comes with it. “After stepping into a bigger role my junior year, mental preparation became a big one for me. I always make sure to stay positive no matter what, also I focus on just having fun and enjoying the game.” Perez said.
Cooper has an interesting play style and stays very involved every time he is on the field. “I’d say my play style is a lot about staying composed and creating opportunities for others. My main goal is always to keep possession and make smart passes.” Perez said. “Leading the team in assists is so important to me because it shows how good the team chemistry has been,” said Perez. Some players might look to score first, but Cooper is always getting someone else involved and doing what must be done to win the game. Even though Cooper is recognized for his vision, he also put in 4 goals for his team as well, showing why he deserves first team all-district for his well-rounded play style.
“Being a part of HSE soccer means a lot to me because it feels as if we are one big family and we are always pushing to improve every day” Perez said. With Hamilton Southeastern making a run to regionals this year, Cooper is setting his sights on bigger goals for next year when he stated, “I want to win as much awards as possible, but more than that, I want to have fun playing soccer and would love to win state with this group of guys.”
