Hamilton Southeastern Senior Luke Weemer enters his final basketball season with confidence and high goals. With new head coach Bobby Allen taking over the crew of four returning starters, the Royals are focused on building a winning culture and competing for championships.
“I’ve really enjoyed the competitive and intense practices,” Weemer said. “Coach Allen has a history of producing winning programs, and we all have a big goal to do that this year.”
Weemer, a 6’6 forward committed to Emporia State, will play a key leadership role on a veteran roster that’s been playing together for years. The group’s chemistry he said, gives the Royals a major advantage.
“Most of us have been playing with each other since freshman year,” Weemer said. “We know how each other plays, and that’s what makes our team click.”
Hamilton Southeastern’s goals are straightforward: win the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, claim a sectional title, and bring home the Mudsock Trophy.
“Yeah, our team has big goals this year,” Weemer said. “We want to win the conference and sectional championship. But also the Mudsock.”
Weemer said his commitment to Emporia State has given him both clarity and motivation heading into his senior year.
“After visiting Emporia State, the decision was easy for me,” he said. “The coaching staff and players made me feel welcomed and wanted. The facilities were great, and the program is looking to compete at a national level.”
As his final high school season approaches, Weemer said he’s most excited to get back on the court with his teammates one more time.
“I’m just excited to see the team come together and reach our goals this year,” Weemer said. “If we can get everyone to buy in for the good of the program, the sky’s the limit for us.”
