Senior Lexi Perozzi was named to the 2025 HCCA All-State Cheer Team on Nov. 1, an elite group recognizing the top 12 senior cheerleaders in Indiana.
Perozzi is the first cheerleader in Hamilton Southeastern High School history to earn the honor. To earn her spot, Perozzi and head coach Ally Hudson created a one-minute video highlighting her top skills, including cheers, jumps and tumbling.
Since her freshman year, Perozzi has dreamed of making the all-state team as a senior. She said she knew it was possible if she stayed focused and consistent throughout her four years on the varsity team.
“I have friends from other schools around the state that are insanely good,” Perozzi said. “So, I wasn’t expecting to make it since I knew others had amazing talent.”
With this being only HSE’s second year in the Hoosier Cheer Coaches Association (HCCA), the process was a new experience for the program. Perozzi’s determination helped her stand out among tough competition. Several Royals cheerleaders in past years have been selected to the IASP All-State Team, but Perozzi is the first in school history to earn HCCA All-State honors.
“HCCA is a new state organization that we just switched to completely this year,” Perozzi said. “I feel very grateful that I was able to be the first HCCA all-state cheerleader from HSE.”
Perozzi wasn’t the only HSE cheerleader to try out. All four varsity blue seniors tried out as well Abby McAllister, Sophia Mallov, Brooke Evers, and Lexi Perozzi, all submitted videos for consideration, but only one cheerleader per school can be selected for the team.
Judges reviewed each one-minute video, looking for spirit, leadership and overall technique. While it’s challenging to show everything in just 60 seconds, the time limit helped the cheerleader to really think through what they need to show and what they don’t need too.
“Our coaches hand selected a cheer for each of us seniors, that they think would help us the best,” said Perozzi. “Then us cheerleaders got to pick our jump and tumbling sequences”.
This achievement serves as a proud moment for HSE cheerleading program, showing how far the program has come in just the two years they have been in the HCCA. Perozzi’s success reflects the commitment of not only herself, but also her coaches and teammates.
