HSE Boys Tennis finished their season in 9th place in the state. They started their season off shaky with a loss against Carmel 0-5 on August 15th. We asked senior George Ostrowski what it was like to start the season off with a loss and he said.
“So every season we always start off playing Carmel, which is always a tough opponent as they have won several state championships and always find themselves in the top 3 in rankings. Most of us are discouraged at first just because of the fact that we play them first, which is why i think most of our team loses. Brady Rhoades and I started off hot when we won the first set easily but we fell the rest of the match, but everyone has learned to push that aside as we cant base the whole season off of one loss. So Brady and I just learned from that and we only lost 1 other match the whole season.”
The team starts to move into a more positive direction with a win against Brownsburg High school 5-0 on August 22nd. The boys had a close game with Zionsville but fell 2-3 on August 27th. The boys then competed in the John Shirley Invitational at Homestead High school on August 31st and placed 4th. Brebeuf High School placed 1st and Carmel High School and Homestead High School tied for 2nd place. The next game was against Westfield away at Westfield on September 3rd and won 3-2.

The boys head into a win streak with a clean sweep against North Central High school 5-0 on September 9th. The boys then headed into Mudsock week with their heads held high and won 3-2 against Fishers on September 10th. We asked senior Leo Mcveigh how he felt about winning the Mudsock trophy this year he said
“It felt good since we didn’t win last year, so it felt good knowing we have improved. But it was also cool because of how hard our doubles fought to win it for us.”
As the boys carried on after a Mudsock win they won 4-1 against Avon High school on September 12th. In a tough battle against Center Grove High school on September 14th the boys came short 0-5 ending their win streak.
