The girls’ basketball team secured a hard fought 66-60 victory over Brownsburg on Nov. 26. Despite the game being very close, the girls’ basketball team showed their grit on both sides of the ball, staying undefeated and handing Brownsburg their second loss of the season.
Going into this game, the Royals were 5-0 and aware of the challenge before they even stepped on the court.
“The biggest thing we have to do is get better every day, no matter the challenges.” head coach Brian Satterfield said.
Confidence played a big role in this tight matchup allowing Indiana University commit, Maya Makalusky, to score 37 points and lead the Royals offense.
“[Confidence] has not been an issue for me,” Makalusky said. “My confidence comes from the Lord and knowing that I have a purpose and that this team has a purpose.”
The defense also played a a big role in this game, contributing over nine steals and three blocks as a team. Junior point guard Kennedy Holman emphasized the team’s goals on both ends of the court
“A personal goal was to get at least five assists and a team goal was to have help side defense all the time.” Holman said.
Coach Satterfield echoed these sentiments, crediting their victory to the team’s camaraderie and defensive contributions.
“I thought it was a great team effort,” said Satterfield. “Anytime you’re playing a girl like Brownsburg had in the middle, it is always a challenge. However, you gotta give all the girls credit trying to defend her whether it’s on or off the ball.”
This victory improves the team’s record and chemistry as they prepare for their next challenge on Saturday.
“We got another great challenge come Saturday out of Chicago, that’s really good and makes tournament runs,” Satterfield said. “Really working on fundamentals, playing as a team, and building team chemistry can take us far.”
With the determination to face adversity throughout this season and the veteran leadership they have, the girls basketball team is looking dangerous.
