Junior point guard, Kennedy Holman, is undoubtedly talented on the court. Being ranked 60th in the nation and recently named Wish-TV Athlete of the Week, her commitment to excellence is evident. Now in her third year as a varsity athlete, Holman is averaging 8.6 points and 5.0 assists per game, contributing to the girls basketball team being 11-0 early in their season. With only a year left in her high school career, Holman is focused on making an impact on the court and in the locker room.
To Holman, playing the game isn’t just about winning, but also being a great teammate. Having one of the biggest leadership roles on the court, she has to run the offense and create plays. Holman’s effort on both sides of the court along with her driven mindset pushes herself and her teammates toward their goals.
“All my teammates understand the expectations we have for ourselves and others,” Holman said. “… so pushing one another is our way of supporting each other because we want to make each other better.”
One of Holman’s biggest goals for the rest of her high school career is to win back to back state titles. To help her pursue this big goal, Holman is staying focused on her perspective of the game.
“…practic[e] like you’re nothing and play like you’re everything.” Holman said.
Outside of the high school season, Holman plays for nationally ranked, Indiana Girls Basketball on their 17u Girls Under Armor Association (GUAA) team during AAU season. Starting in fifth grade, her and HSE teammate, Kayla Stidham, joined IGB and have played together ever since.
“Kennedy is my ride or die,” Stidham said. “She is someone you can always rely on when you need something.”
Alongside the support of her teammates, Holman also has her mom on the bench. Assistant coach, Lisa Holman, has been coaching Holman from a young age, advising her on and off the court.
“My mom is probably my biggest supporter. With her being on the bench during high school season, it’s easy for her to give me instant advice,” Holman said. “Off the court she continues to give me advice not only about basketball but myself as a person.”
Holman is reliable in all aspect of the game, however, outside of the gym, she is a supportive and honest teammate. As Holman continues her seasons of HSE basketball, she is focused on the team’s goals and leaving her legacy as versatile player.
