Junior forward, Luke Weemer has been having an outstanding season so far this year and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Head Coach John Ashworth says “Luke is a classic “gym rat” type of worker. He is always in the gym and really wants to get better – he works on his game a ton but also works hard in the weight room to improve his strength and athletic ability.” Averaging 11-5-1 as a starter this year after having somewhat of a mediocre sophomore year coming off the bench and playing only 3 varsity games and averaging one point. Weemer’s season high so far came in a conference match up against North Central on Tuesday, January 7thwhen we had 28 points 10 rebounds and 1 assist. Not only Coach feels good about Weemer’s game but Weemer himself. “It feels really good to be playing well this year, but I also have to credit my teammates for making it possible,” Weemer says. He eventually figured out at the end of his sophomore season that he must work harder to get to where he wants to be this season. Weemer was working nonstop during the off season to secure his top varsity spot and has not shown any signs of failure through this tough process. His breakthrough has not gone unnoticed either. “Luke did a great job of focusing on long term development and continuing to improve” Ashworth said. “He is a kid who started for our freshman team, then moved up to JV, and now he has a big role for our varsity.” Throughout Weemer’s breakthrough season, everyone has seen his potential around his work ethic drastically change for the better. Manager, Ryne Hilgendorf said, “It’s good to see him take a step up as a starter when we lost a lot of them from last year.” Hopefully we can continue to see Weemer succeed for the rest of the year, and you can see his progress on southeastern sportsnetwork.com and our Instagram @southeasternsn_
