Balancing one sport with school is tough. Balancing two? That takes serious dedication. But for Lauren Mattick, a swimmer and tennis player here at Hamilton Southeastern, the challenge is just part of the journey.
From early morning swim practices to afternoon tennis matches, Mattick has learned what it takes to push through exhaustion, setbacks, and packed schedules.
“I have to wake up at 5:00am for swim practice, and then after school, I head straight to tennis,” Mattick said. “It’s not easy, but I love both sports too much to choose just one.”
In the water, Mattick specializes in Butterfly and IM, earning top finishes at The Reserve Championships, this past January. On the tennis court, her powerful forehand serve makes her a fierce competitor, helping HSE secure big wins. Coaches and teammates admire Mattick for her relentless work ethic. “Some athletes would struggle with just one of these sports, but Lauren refuses to let challenges slow her down,” said Coach Emily Thompson, who has watched her grow as both a swimmer and tennis player.
Between practices, meets, matches, and schoolwork, finding time to rest isn’t easy. But Mattick stays focused by keeping a strict routine and reminding herself why she does it all.
“There are times when I feel exhausted, but I always think about how much I’ve worked for this,” Mattick said. “And I know that if I keep pushing, it will all be worth it.” That determination has paid off. Whether it’s setting new personal records in the pool or battling through tough tennis matches, Mattick proves that hard work and passion can take you far.
As she looks ahead to her Senior Year, one thing is certain, Lauren Mattick is not backing down from any challenge.
