Boys Basketball Secure Historic Road Win Against Carmel to Extend Win Streak to 4

For the first time in eight years, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team took down Carmel on their home court, winning 60-49 on February 14th. The victory marked their fourth straight win and gave them a confidence boost heading into the final stretch of the season.
Playing without one of their scoring and rebounding assets Luke Weemer, HSE stepped up in all areas. They dominated early, building a 30-16 halftime lead.
“Anytime you can go on the road and get a tough victory against Carmel, it helps your team’s mentality and togetherness,” Coach Ashworth said. “Our kids were motivated to do something that hadn’t been done in a while, so it was good to see us play together and get a much-needed win.”
The Royals’ defense was locked in, making things tough for Carmel all night. Landon Osswald played a key role, stepping up in Weemer’s absence.
“Landon did a great job defensively, and as a unit, we made things difficult and rebounded well,” Ashworth added.
Carmel made a second-half push, but HSE stayed aggressive, attacking the basket to close out the game.
“We did a good job of staying in attack mode and not settling for the first shot,” Ashworth said. “We got stops when we needed them and found a way to win.”
With two regular-season games left—Brownsburg on February 21st and Lawrence North on February 25th—The boys are focused on keeping their momentum heading into sectionals.
“We want to be playing our best basketball come sectionals,” Ashworth said. “That will be our focus the rest of the season.”
With a historic win under their belt, the Royals are ready to make a tournament run.
