Aiden Blackmore is one of the top wrestlers that HSE has to offer while being only a Sophomore. A varsity season for most is season to show out and dominate. Blackmore’s season went a little differently then he would’ve hoped and what others would’ve expected.
At the very first tournament of the season, Blackmore suffered from a catastrophic injury that nobody that affected him for a good amount of the season. “It was called Pleural Effusion.” Blackmore said, “it was a small tear in the lining around my lung, and a little bit of liquid got in it.” This caused him to not be able to take deep breaths or sleep very well.
Dealing with injury’s like this won’t just affect you physically but also mentally. It was very difficult for Blackmore to make as strong of a recovery as he did. “My lung played a bigger role on the emotional side then what I would’ve thought.” Blackmore said, “I felt mentally I could do the activities, but whenever I attempted a small job or a few pushups it would still hurt.” It was a random and weird injury the he didn’t understand at the time.
Blackmore’s teammates played a huge role for him making him have the comeback he did. “My teammates told me that they were excited for me to be back on mat and wrestling again.” Blackmore said, “that made me very happy to heal up and wrestle again.” Having his teammates support really give him that drive to keep powering through his injury.
While he was out, he strived himself to become a better teammate. “He doesn’t just make people get better, but he’ll force you to get better, and he wants the most out of you.” Freshman Spencer Lawhead describes him as teammate who makes the team better as a unit.
Aiden Blackmore will be back next season not just looking to make a huge bounce back year, to hopefully not just make state, but win it.
