Southeastern Sports Network sat down with senior diver Zoe Rehm just before her diving regionals meet at Hamilton Southeastern high school to tell her story of diving and encourage younger athletes to get on the board and try the sport out. Rehm shared with us her experiences on and off the board, and how it shaped her throughout her life and going into college to hopefully continue her diving career.
Rehm, a senior at Hamilton Southeastern high school, only started driving in her sophomore year. Up until then Rehm had been a gymnast and was persuaded by a friend to pursue diving after it was described as similar.
“I thought it would be the same thing, like the same techniques and,” Rehm stated “I had to completely switch everything, how I did everything.”
With her transition into diving at the start of her sophomore season, she changed many of her techniques and her form. Rehm then started her junior season much improved and significantly better.
“My teammates I want to make them proud,” Rehm said when asked who she credits, “they’re my best friends so I want to be there and let them support me, and I want to support them.”
Rehm has met some of her best friends through the swim and dive team. Although there are only 3 divers, they are an extremely tight-knit group who rely heavily on each other. One of them recently joined the diving team this year as a freshman, Rehm and the other two girls have already made a strong connection that will last a lifetime.
“I’ve met her at the start of this season during pre-season practice and I already feel like I’ve known her my whole life” Rehm said when asked about the relationship with her teammates.
Although Rehm’s IHSAA State Championships run ended at regionals, she was extremely proud of herself and the work she put into the end of the season.
“Just get up on the board and do what you can.”
