On April 18th, 2025, the HSE Boys Track distance runners competed in the Flashers Showcase at Franklin Central High School. The Royals brought eight athletes to the meet, with six runners clocking times under five minutes in the 1600 meter run and two athletes finishing as runners-up in their heats.
The meet featured 78 teams from across Indiana, making it one of the most competitive events in Indiana of the early season. Unlike most meets, there was no team scoring or awards. Instead the focus is on individuals performance, giving runners a great chance to test themselves against athletes from all over the state in the beginning of the season.
“This was one of the most exciting races I’ve been a part of,” said Isaac Smith. “My favorite part was getting the chance to race against so many different runners we don’t normally compete with”
Because the meet only included distance events the 1600-meter run and the 4×800-meter relay it was a perfect opportunity for HSE’s distance squad to showcase their talent and the hard work they’ve been putting in during practice.
“I think my race went really well. It showed me that I’ve got all the pieces I need to hit my goals this season,” Smith said. “Now it’s just about putting all the pieces together at the next meet so I can reach my goals.”
As the Royals continue their outdoor season, they’re using this strong early performance as a foundation for the rest of their season. The team is aiming for big results this postseason with an overall goal of winning state.
“This meet prepared me for upcoming meets by giving me experience with better competition” said Drew Cole. “More people in the same race making it more physical than usual”
