From playing the game she loves to now coaching it, Coach Pusti is passing on her insightful teachings to her players. She hopes to not just develop them into star athletes in the sport, but also to help them become even better human beings.
Pusti recognizes the strength of her team last year and anticipates how different this year will be. “We had a 25-4 record last year and finished the season by winning the 4A State Title,” Pusti stated. “So that was a significant accomplishment.” Winning a championship in sports is a goal that every team strives to achieve. Now that the new season has begun, they’ve put that achievement in the past.
The team and Pusti have chosen to concentrate on the smaller goals this season. “We have to remain focused and driven on this year’s smaller goals,” Pusti explained. “The little goals in each practice, inning, and game are the ones that will ultimately lead us this season.” If the team maintains its focus on these objectives, nothing can hold them back.
Pusti excels not only at developing her players as athletes but also as individuals. She insights them on valuable skills that they can apply throughout their lives. “As a person, Coach P has helped me become more attentive to my teammates and aware of my surroundings,” Tori Bricker shared. “She’s emphasized being present in the moment, listening attentively, and recognizing the needs of those around me.” Pusti is doing an exceptional job of preparing these athletes for successful lives.
“We talked at the beginning of the season that we have to ‘win from within’ first,” Pusti said. “Gaining that confidence within ourselves, positive self-talk, and encouraging one another will help provide us with a firm foundation.”
