The Hamilton Southeastern boys lacrosse team already proved they were the best in the state last year. They beat Carmel 10–6 in the 2024 state championship to claim their fourth title—and they haven’t lost since.
Now, with another regular-season showdown against Carmel approaching, HSE is not stepping off the gas. Still, instead, They’re grinding even harder than before.
At practice this week, the tempo was electric. Players ran full-field transitions, tightened defensive rotations, and repped through offensive sets with intensity. This wasn’t just preparation for one game. It was championship-level focus.
Carmel is one of the state’s powerhouses when it comes to lax. Carmel is walking into this rematch looking for revenge. But HSE appears locked in. Despite their undefeated record, there is still no loss in focus or drive to beat them once again. The coaching staff has pushed the team to stay sharp mentally and physically, knowing a slip in focus could be costly, and potentially cause a loss in their season.
The Royals, now undefeated this season, are driven by leadership from David Gould and Max Kemp, who said this matchup feels personal—even with a title already in hand.
Film sessions have been longer, with coaches breaking down Carmel’s latest play styles. Carmel’s offense has been sharp, with lots of communication and quick ball movement.
Despite the pressure, the Royals treat this as more than just a rivalry—it’s a chance to set the tone for another championship run.
For HSE, last year’s win was a statement. This week’s practice was a reminder they’re not done writing their legacy.
“This is about who we are now,” said Dalton fertig. “We’re not satisfied. We’re chasing something bigger.”
