On the evening of Thursday, September 11th, Fishers High School’s Tigers arrived at Hamilton Southeastern High School for arguably the most highly anticipated match of the season. The tension and anticipation building up to the fateful standoff was undeniably present, with both teams working tirelessly all year to a secure a win.
Before the match began, Southeastern Schools took the time to commemorate all of the local law enforcement and first responders that work around the clock to keep students and their families of Fishers safe. The HSE choir also preformed the national anthem, filling the gym with a sense of unity and pride, which echoed a simple truth to the audience – two schools, one community.
At around 7:30, the battle between the two teams officially started. Both teams garnered players of high skill and determination this year, set to win the annually awarded Mudsock Trophy. The HSE onslaught was led by senior Madi Myles, later named Player of the Game by Indy Ignite, who asserted Royal dominance throughout the match. Both the HSE and Fishers teams showed off their skills in intense rallies that kept the crowd on edge, and by the first set the score was 25-18, with HSE in the lead.
By the second set, Fishers refused to let the Royals score, firing back with relentless offense and determined defense. Students from the Fishers student section matched the intensity of the match with their spirit, firing chant after chant against the Royal’s Blue Crew in a clash that echoed the ferocity of the night’s game. Despite the Tigers’ valiant effort, the Royals overpowered the Tigers and closed the second set 25-21.
By the time set three rolled around, the Royals had the game entirely in their hands. The Royals refused to let the Tigers gain traction, and steamrolled the Tigers, securing a 3-0 win for the Mudsock Trophy. The final score set the Blue Crew in a frenzy, storming the floor and cheering the Royals. This win extends the Royals’ streak to six games, and the overall seasonal score 10-1.
