HSE Girls Track and Field took home 2nd place at the 26th annual Hoosier Crossroads Conference (HCC) meet with a score of 104 points on May 6th, just narrowly falling to Brownsburg High School’s 106 points. The Lady Royals had 43 entries in the meet, bringing along athletes from all grades. Notably there were several PRs tied and broken, as well as first places taken home by various athletes in a multitude of events.
Short Distance (100m, 200m, & 400m)
In short distance the Royals walked away with 1st place in the 400-meter by junior Anissa Lammie with a time of 56.96s, earning her team 10 points overall. Additionally, in the 400-meter, senior Ava Kashani placed 5th with a PR of 1:01.36s, earning the Royals 4 points in the process. In the 200-meter, both sophomores Cianna Cunningham and Delaney Foellinger represented the Royals, with Cunningham placing 4th in the finals with a time of 26.42s, earning 5 points, as well as Foellinger placing 14th with a time of 28.07s. Finally, in short distance, sophomore Kaleah McCarter took home 4th place with a time of 12.55s in the 100 meter, tying her personal best, as well as Cianna Cunningham placing 7th with a time of 13.13s.
Senior Ava Kashani, reflecting on both her team’s and her own performance, commented that,
“Everyone did amazing at [the HCC] meet. Most of the girls PR’d and were extremely encouraging of each other.”

Long Distance (800m, 1600m, & 3200m)
In long distance the Royals proved very successful with 5 different PRs, including in all events. For the 800-meter both HSE athletes, sophomore Evie Patch and junior Kherington Patton, PR’d, timing in at 2:21.63s and 2:27.21s, respectively. Patch earned the team 4 points after placing 5th, with Patton following behind her, placing 10th. While the 1600-meter didn’t provide points for the Lady Royals, but it did provide a new PR for senior Raegan Hissong clocking in with a time of 5:26.30s, placing 10th. Additionally, sophomore Kate Lux placed 12th with a time 5:27.60s. Finally, in the 3200-meter, junior Zoe Gebhart took 1st place with a new PR of 10:52.60s, bringing in 10 points individually for the team. Senior Aubrey Berger came in 11th place with another new PR of 11:43.95s, closing out the long-distance races for the Royals.

Senior Aubrey Berger comments on her performance at the meet saying,
“…I’m very proud of my team. We knew going into it that it was a bigger meet with a lot of competition. Not many people expected us to compete with Brownsburg. They were projected to score around 130 points while we were only projected around 70, so for us to come out and lose by only 2 points says a lot about our team.”
Hurdles (100mh & 300mh)
Earning a combined 9 points for the Royals both seniors Micaiah Bullock and Chloe Senefeld placed 4th and 5th overall in the 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Bullock ran multiple new PRs in both the 100-meter hurdle trials and in the finals, running a time of 15.34s. Senefeld followed close behind, performing in 15.68s. In the 300-meter hurdles Senefeld scored 10 points for the Lady Royals, running a time of 43.28s as well as placing 1st overall. Bullock also ran the 300-meter hurdles, placing 12th with a time of 52.14s.

Relays (4x100m, 4x400m, & 4x800m)
Not only did the Royals place 1st in the 4×100-meter relay, but they also managed to rein in 1st in the 4×400 meter relay, as well as a season best time in the 4×800-meter. The 4×100-meter relay team, timing in at 48.87s consisted of sophomores Cianna Cunningham and Kaleah McCarter, in addition to seniors Laila Ehrgott and Chloe Senefeld. The 4×400-meter relay team, who also took home 1st place, ran a time of 3:57.07s and included sophomores Cianna Cunningham and Kaleah McCarter, junior Anissa Lammie, and finished out by senior Chloe Senefeld. A new season best time of 9:36.93s was relayed in the 4×800-meter relay, whose team was comprised of freshman Evelyn Gerig, and juniors Zoe Gebhart, Anissa Lammie, and Anna Irish.

Field Events (Pole Vault, Long Jump, High Jump, Discuss, & Shot-Put)
Senior Riley Williams placed 2nd overall in Pole Vault with a mark of 11-0, placing her in the top 10 vaulters in the state. The other vaulter, sophomore Eleanor Henry, placed 6th overall at the meet, marking 9-6, a new personal best. The pole vaulters secured 11 points for the Royals. In addition to vaulters, both Bullock and McCarter secured a total of 8 points in the Long Jump, with distances of 16-10.75, placing 3rd, and 15-0.75, placing 7th, respectively. Sophomores Azenwi Ndofor and Avery Francis represented the Lady Royals in High Jump, with Ndofor placing 12th overall after jumping 4-6. Finally, both Shot Put and Discus consisted of both sophomore Christina Mimche and freshman Bella Arthur. In Shot Put Mimche placed 9th, throwing 34-0, and Arthur placed 14th, throwing 26-10, while in Discus Arthur placed 10th, throwing 96-9, and Mimche placing 14th after throwing 91-6.
