On the evening of October 17th, the boy soccer team fell to the Harrison Highschool Raiders in a heart breaking regional semifinal match up. The boys went into this match with confidence as they had remained undefeated all season, and the last game ending in a tie had not occurred since September 13th. It is safe to say they were used to a win.
Within the first half, the Royals struck first. A goal from senior, Dillon O’Rourke, set the royals up 1-0 for the entirety of the first half. In the second half, the Raiders netted the lone goal of the half, meaning it was time for overtime.
The Royals battled the hardest they could during those last 14 minutes, but they were still at a dead lock as overtime can to an end.
Time for penalty kicks.
Jack Anderson, Johnathan Perez, Jean Oquendo, Bennett Young, and Ameer Abu-Salih were Coach White’s chosen players.
Out of all the kicks, the Raiders came out on top scoring 3 penalties and the Royals only scoring 2. Unfortunately, this led to the end of the road for the Royals with the game ending 4-3 Raiders.
Crushing end for the Royals, senior Jack Anderson says, “Obviously we were pretty upset after the loss in penalties, but you can’t ask for much more. I wouldn’t trade any trophy or accolade for the experience this team had this season, and we fought hard until the end.”
Congratulations boys on a such a great year!
