For Senior Mia Henderson, swimming is a vital part of daily life. It is what her day plans around what she will continue with in her future. From early morning swim practices to late night preparation and homework, here’s how swimming has an influence on the routine of a high school swimmer.
As most high school athletes, Henderson begins her day early in the morning around 5:15 AM to prepare for practice and plan for the day. Practice is especially important not just in season but also in her own personal life because she will be swimming for Hope next season. She then heads to practice and heads to school afterward.
After school, Henderson returns to the swimming pool for another two hours of practice and heads back home around 5:15 PM. Henderson’s post practice routine is stretching, eating a descent meal, especially before swimming meets, and getting a good amount of sleep to repeat her long day again.
Henderson details her routine as deciding role on what happens both in her daily routine, but also her future ahead. Henderson describes the importance of swimming, especially in high school saying, “Swimming affects my daily life because I do it every day, so I have to build my schedule around it.” Henderson continues with, “It also affects my future because I am swimming in college so that played a role in deciding where I want to go to college.”
With the season just wrapping up last week, Henderson plans to enjoy the rest of her senior year and moving on to bigger accomplishments, along with moving onto college at Hope College in Michigan at the Division III level. This is the day in a life of a high school swimmer here at Hamilton Southeastern High School and good luck to Mia and her teammates with swimming!
