For seniors on the HSE dance team, the final season represents more than just routines and results. It is a culmination of years of growth, challenges, and the impact they leave on the program. As their time comes to a close, that legacy is defined not only by performance, but by leadership and connection.
For senior Summer Wolf, being a leader means focusing on those who will follow.
“Being a senior on this dance team means that I want to set a good example for the underclassmen and rising seniors,” Wolf said. “I want to ensure that we provide our teammates with the right tools, mindsets, and experiences to let them become their own leaders.”
That leadership was developed over time through both personal growth and challenges. Coming from a ballet background, Wolf had to adjust her technique to better match the team’s style. As one of the tallest dancers, learning to adapt physically became a key part of her journey.
With the help of her coaches, she strengthened her technique and ability to blend with the team — something that contributed to moments like regionals, where the team earned first place in pom.
“I remember the feeling of utmost relief and joy knowing that our hard work had finally paid off,” Wolf said.
Beyond performance, Wolf focused on mentoring younger dancers and leaving a lasting impression through encouragement and leadership.
“My greatest wish is that the dance team recognizes the passion the seniors had for this team and know that anyone has the capability of becoming a leader,” she said.
For senior Kate Kaner, leadership is centered on support and positivity within the team.
“I hope that the underclassmen remember my leadership as encouraging and kind — the kind of leadership that pushes a team to the next level every day and keeps the morale of the team positive,” Kaner said.
Throughout her time on the team, Kaner has contributed to building a culture rooted in encouragement and connection. That environment has helped strengthen the bond between teammates and create a sense of unity that extends beyond performances.
As the season ends, both seniors reflect not only on what they have accomplished, but on the relationships they have built.
“A team is only a season, but friendships last a lifetime,” Wolf said.
While this may be their final performance, the legacy they leave behind will continue through the dancers they have mentored and the culture they helped create.
