With the rise of the 2024-2025 girls’ basketball season, the HSE senior players are eager to leave their careers of high school ball with a defying finish. This year’s team holds 7 seniors, Kayla Brinley, Abby brown, Abi Clayton, Maine hooks, Kenley Johnson, Maya Makalusky, and Addison van Hoosen, who all got the chance to be honored and celebrated at their Senior Night game.
Hamilton Southeastern played against Pendleton Heights on December 10th, a night ending in a Royal victory. Each senior, excluding the injured, received the chance to play, and win for their team. The final buzzer of Tuesday night’s game finalized a score of HSE with 53 points, and PHHS 3with 3 points.
Addison, Abi, and Maine gave their remarks of memories from being a Royal.
“My favorite memory from basketball,” Maine says, “is winning Mudsock my junior year.” This memory is shared by her teammate, Addison, “My favorite memory from HSE Basketball is winning Mudsock last year,” she recalls, “and celebrating with the team after.” These celebrations she describes give insight to the bond this team shares. Abi adds to this heartwarming topic of their team’s bond with the lessons HSE Basketball has taught her, “Basketball has made me realize that it is okay to make mistakes,” Abi explains, “and that teamwork, commitment, and toughness are key parts of life that will make me a better person in the future.”
These girls embrace these memories while awaiting their exciting futures. “I plan on attending IU,” Addison exclaims, “and studying exercise science on a pre physical therapy track.” Abi plans to continue her career in basketball, “I will attend Franklin College to play basketball,” Abi says, “and major in Exercise Science to eventually become an athletic trainer.” Maine also has plans of a athletic centered education. “I’m undecided about where I want to attend college,” Maine explains, “but I plan on studying athletic training.”
These seniors hope when they hear the final buzzer at their last game as a Royal, they can look back on their time at HSE with pride and hope for the future.
