Olivia Moorman was just a freshman who had barely practiced any cheer before. She was invited to the cheer tryouts and made the cut! Ever since then the cheer team for Moorman had been like a second home. Over the years she has become a great influence for others, and she hopes that her legacy will continue when she leaves.
Many people just see Moorman as a cheerleader, but to Moorman being a cheerleader is everything. Cheer has impacted her in a way that many people don’t understand or get to see. Even out of school it has an positive influence on her.
“Cheer has given me a family that I can rely on outside of school,” said Moorman. “ I have become so close with all of these girls and they have taught me so many valuable life lessons that I will carry through my life.”
Even though many people see cheer as just a sport, I think it’s very important to understand that it has a huge impact on the athlete. As any High School Student Athlete would understand that. They also understand that sometimes it’s hard to be motivated every day, but as a student athlete it’s important that you find a way that works for you to be motivated!
“I remind myself of how it feels when all the things fall into place,” said Moorman as she explains how she stays motivated. “When we hit our full out it’s so rewarding which always keeps me motivated to be better. I also don’t want to let down my teammates and coaches which motivated me to be my best each and every day.”
In our interview I asked Senior, Olivia Moorman, “How does being a senior cheerleader influence the way you mentor younger team members?” Moorman explained, “I constantly try to remind myself to be the person I would have wanted my freshman year. I try to be inclusive while showing how we run our program for the hopes of leaving a positive legacy.”
Moorman is willing to be the person she wishes she had her freshman year to make other cheerleaders experience as great as it can be. Even though Moorman hadn’t even considered cheerleading in high school, it has had a huge influence on her life today. And it’s shaped her into the athlete she is today.
