Every year since the creation of the Hamilton Southeastern Dance Program, participation and interest in the program has grown rapidly. One student-athlete who experienced and contributed to the growth was Alexa Snow. Snow’s career was filled with defining moments and seasons. None better than her sophomore year, which was filled with exciting routines, relationships that will last a lifetime, and a national championship, building the legacy this years team carries on today.
Fast forward to the 2025-26 season, Snow is now back in the program, this time as an assistant coach, after a job at HSE opened. Even though she did not vision herself going back home to coach her former school, it was an offer she could not pass up.
“After completing my time dancing in college, I felt a tug in my heart to coach,” Coach Snow said, “and as fate would have it, a spot was opening up back home for the next season.”
Always wanting to keep dance apart of her life, Coach Snow has found her role. Although her dancing career has come to an end, Snow has learned many valuable lessons that have shaped her into the coach she is today.
“Lessons that I have learned from dance is that confidence is a superpower. Resilience is key and every individual has their own strengths that makes the team come together and work as one unit,” Coach Snow said, “If you want to feel the most confident, you have to be willing to put yourself outside the box and be able to perform and express yourself under pressure!”
As a former dancer, it is important to Coach Alexa Snow that the foundations the program was built on, are still possessed by the team this year. These foundations have created the culture of the program, which is different for this years program than in years past.
“Culture is a huge standard for our program to have the best sportsmanship and respect for not only our school, but our community,” Coach Snow said, “the culture of the team has also shifted into a stronger, more competitive, and school spirit program.”
Since her time as a dancer and currently early into her coaching career, Coach Alexa Snow has been the centerpiece of sustaining the culture of the program, a culture that is shaped by traditions.
“When it comes to traditions, one thing that comes to mind that we love to tell a story through our routines,” Coach Snow said, “One thing we always say to our dancers is that at HSE we are know to entertain. And that is the standard that we have always been upheld to since I was here!”
Coach Snow expects that tradition to continue this year. That is one of the many expectations this exciting group this year has in store for them. A year with filled with new beginnings and memorable finishes.
“Coaching this season I am most looking forward to the freshmen taking the competition floor for the first time as a Royal, the seniors genuinely leaving their mark by leading the team to new levels with gratitude and levels,” Coach Snow said, “what I am excited for most is getting to have fun with our passion for dance!”
