Faith and Hannah Senger step onto the same floor wearing the same uniform. The similarity ends there. For freshmen Faith and Hannah Sanger, dance has been a constant since childhood. The twins began dancing at age three and now compete together on the varsity dance team at Hamilton Southeastern High School. Although they share the same start, their experiences and motivations have developed differently over time, allowing each to grow into her own dancer while still performing side by side.
“When I was younger, I feel like our parents just felt that dance was something good to put us in,” Hannah Senger says, “At first when we were in preschool they put us in little league soccer, but we weren’t really good at that. We were just doing cartwheels on the field and stuff, so they knew that we should do dance.”
Faith joined the junior high dance team first in sixth grade, gaining early experience with competitions and team routines, while Hannah followed a year later. That progression helped prepare both dancers for the demands of high school, and when they entered high school as freshmen, they earned spots on the varsity team, an opportunity that brought both excitement and pressure.
“I feel like it’s a great experience, especially as a freshman,” Hannah Senger says,”I think it’s also very scary because I’ve never been in high school before, so it’s hard to balance dance and school, but I’ve got the hang of it.”
As varsity freshmen, Faith and Hannah use dance as a way to express their individuality. Despite this, they still look up to one another.
“Last year at the first competition [Hannah] got a higher score than I did,” Faith Senger says, “That pushed me to want to be better because she’s a very good dancer, and I want to be more like her in that way.”
Even while performing side by side, Faith and Hannah bring different strengths to the floor. Hannah’s power shows in her jumps and pom, while Faith’s confidence comes through in clean turns and hip-hop style. Though often grouped together, their teammates recognize them as two distinct dancers who contribute in different ways.
“Our teammates realize that we’re different dancers and they don’t always associate us together,” Hannah Senger says,” So, I feel like they see us as two different people, but I also think they think of us as a pair at the same time.”
Together, Faith and Hannah’s journey reflect the balance between shared beginnings and personal growth. Years of training, competition, and teamwork have shaped them into dependable varsity athletes who push each other forward while contributing in their own ways. As they continue their high school careers, their bond stays a constant, one built not just on being twins, but on dedication, resilience, and a shared love for dance.
“I like how I can express myself and just put everything aside, like what’s going on during school, and focus on dance, and its chill.” Faith says.
