The 2026 girls’ basketball season officially ended on Saturday Feb 14, with a score of 36-53. To end the season, we interviewed coach Brian Satterfield about his impact on the team and his thoughts of the season. Satterfield is often seen on the sidelines leading his team to victory. However, none truly knows what he does behind the scenes to pull off a season.
From a young age, Satterfield fell in love with basketball.
“Growing up in Indiana, basketball has always been something I enjoyed,” Satterfield said. “Seeing some of the players [from my school] grow up and be Indiana all-stars is something that excited me.”
When he became a coach, he always found that his “ultimate athletes” are the hardest workers. He expressed that not only will they challenge themselves, but their team mates as well. He then expressed there are the “special ones”. These athletes can be a leader even when it means calling their peers out.
“I think your special ones are there to be able to lead the others,” Satterfield said. But at the same time, if they’re not getting things done that need to be done, they’re gonna let them know and not be afraid to hurt their feelings.”
While the team has a great relationship on the court, their relationship off the court is just as important. Satterfield repeatedly talked about the importance of a strong team is the relationship they have with one another.
“Seeing the chemistry of this group, especially on the defensive line, they have exceeded the expectations.” Satterfield said.
Throughout the conversation Satterfield mentioned the excellent defense skills the 2026 team has. He even went as far to say that he thinks they are the best defense in the state. He explained that this sets them apart from other teams they’ve competed against and sets them up to win games.
With the season officially over, Satterfield hopes to leave his players with one key take away.
“The most important thing for them to know, is when you have great chemistry and you lean on one another, anything is possible.” Satterfield said.
