The final whistle blew as the lacrosse season ended. That had marked the end of the year. The scoreboard told more than a score; it represented the accomplishments of the past season. It captured every moment of what was learned from that season.
Over the course of the season, they learned it is good to have a positive attitude, even during bad moments of the games. At first, it is easy to get frustrated and upset after mistakes or after a loss. Over time, focus shifted toward being more encouraging and positive in the team environment
“At the beginning of the season we struggled with staying positive and kind but i think it’s something we worked hard on all year and now have an open and positive environment” Junior Gretchen Garrard said.
Last season helped the team gain chemistry and form a bound between the girls. Playing together created opportunities for the team to grow together through both success and challenges. It helped the team learn how each other played and understand their weaknesses and strengths are.
“Last season prepared us for the upcoming season because we gained chemistry, and we learned how each of us play together” Sophomore Fiona Sharpe said.
Not being motivated or drive at times in the season really showed an impact on the team’s performance. As the team grew to know each other, that motivation that they needed started to form. They built each other up and encouraged the team having the drive they needed. In the beginning they had lows but recognizing what those lows were, helped them grow together as a team.
“In the beginning, especially since the coaching had been rocky all pre-season, our effort and drive to get better wasn’t really there, but as we grew to know each other and build relationships we built each other up and encouraged each other to be our best” Garrard said.
