The HSE Girls Lacrosse team is getting ready to play against Fishers High School for the annual mudsock game on May 2.
At HSE, Mudsock is a one of the bigger games in every sport. Its when we play against our rival school Fishers Highschool and all the students from both sides come and support their team. For Girls Lacrosse its just a fun game to enjoy and win.
“Playing Fishers is definitely our most fun game—we’re able to just go out there and have fun with each other.” Edie Fisher says.
Despite the excitement surrounding the rivalry HSE Girls Lacrosse has won almost every year, in 2025 the score was Hse 25- Fishers 11, in 2021 the score was Hse 19- Fishers 1, In 2019 the score was Hse 11- Fishers 10. So, as you can see Hse has a high chance of winning this year. For the girls that takes the pressure of a little.
“No pressure at all—it’s just fun. We like to troll, try new plays, and we even wear pigtails every time we play them.” Elizabeth Skonning says.
The team’s lighthearted approach is part of what makes the Mudsock game so unique. Traditions like wearing pigtails and keeping the atmosphere playful reflect the strong bond between teammates and their ability to stay relaxed in a high-energy environment.
While it’s a fun night to beat fishers it’s also Senior night and the last game. The event will honor the team’s seniors and recognize their contributions throughout their high school careers. For many players, it will be one of their final opportunities to compete together on their home field.
Skonning says, “It would be a fun win, especially getting to celebrate our seniors on senior night during one of our last games together.”
Beyond the rivalry, the team believes its chemistry is what truly sets them apart. Their connection both on and off the field has been a key factor in their success and continues to enhance their performance.
“Our team connection really sets us apart. We have strong chemistry and are friends on and off the field.” Skonning says.
That sense of unity and energy is what defines the Mudsock game for HSE. With strong team chemistry, a history of success, and a focus on enjoying the game, the Royals head into this year’s matchup confident and ready. As they take the field on May 2, they’ll be making sure to not only continue their winning streak but also make lasting memories in one of the most exciting games of the season. Be sure to be there to support your royals!
